The supergroup, Boygenius – consisting of members Lucy Dacus, Julien Baker, and Phoebe Bridgers- released their self-titled EP in 2018. Since then, the band, and their respective solo careers, has collectively gained a massive following over the past five years. Their first full length album, the record, released in March, peaked at number four on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.
On October 2, 2023 the boys sold out and rocked the stage of Madison Square Garden. Their two hour long set list was nothing short of incredible; performing their entire discography, with the addition of one solo song from each band member, and the entirety of their unreleased EP the rest .
The feeling of disbelief between both the crowd and band was mutual. All three members became emotional while watching the 20,000 person crowd passionately sing their lyrics in unison and expressed their gratitude for their dedicated fans.
Boygenius’ range of music is extremely vast, making their setlist an emotional roller coaster for fans. Each and every song evoked a wide range of feelings amongst the crowd: every fans was either crying, screaming, or harmonizing with friends
After closing their main set with “Not Strong Enough”, the boys appeared on the B-stage, located on the opposite end of the pit, and blessed fans with an early listen to the rest, which is set to release on October 13.
Shortly after the rest, the final encore began. Dacus encouraged the crowd to join her in singing the last verse of Ketchum ID. 20,000 people harmonized, somehow connected through the pure shared love of music.
