Black Phone 2 recently came out to the movie theaters on October 17, 2025. This movie is a supernatural horror film and sequel to the 2021 film, Black Phone. It takes place in a suburban town near Denver, Colorado in the late 1970s. The sequel is based on two siblings, Gwen and Finney, who are coping from the trauma they faced from The Grabber from the previous movie. In this movie, the antagonist, The Grabber, has returned in a monstrous, supernatural form. The film reveals Grabber’s past and his connection to the siblings’ mother, who has psychic abilities. 

In the first movie, the brother, Finney, is abducted by a serial killer. The serial killer is known as the Grabber, and hides Finny in a soundproof basement. In the basement, Finney discovers a disconnected black phone that allows him to communicate with the ghosts of the Grabber’s previous victims. These victims help Finney clues based on their own mistakes and failed attempts in escaping. Finney ends up killing the Grabber by trapping him in a pit and strangling him with the phone cord. However, this physical death does not end the reign of the Grabber as his spirit continues to haunt the living in the sequel. 

In the sequel of Black Phone, Mason Thames did an amazing job bringing depth to his character’s struggles as Finney and the aftermath from the Grabber. The plot of this movie is also phenomenal. The plot centers around the sister, Gwen, who is having bad dreams as she receives calls from the black phone and sees visions of three boys being stalked at a winter camp. Because of this, she and her brother head to the camp to solve the mystery. However, when they try to solace the mystery, they end up confronting the Grabber who has become more powerful in death and is seeking revenge on Finney. The sequel demonstrates themes of overcoming abuse and trauma through supernatural means and faith that can be a source of strength and struggle.
