Last month, a biographical film based on the King of Pop–Michael Jackson released in theaters. The film portrays the story of Michael Jackson and his journey to becoming the most successful and popular entertainers of the world. Michael started his music career initially with the Jackson 5 as lead vocalist–at only eleven years old. The Jackson 5 was an American pop band made up of Michael Jackson’s siblings. Michael eventually decided to fly solo with his music career, and this decision is explored through this newly released film.
In this film, Michael Jackson’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson, takes on the role of portraying his uncle onto the big screens. The actor showcases Jackson’s early life–living in a strict household to how his uncle rose to fame. The film emphasizes Michael Jackson’s early days in Indiana and his harsh experience with his father–Joe Jackson. His father was the individual behind the strings of the Jackson 5 and helped his sons perform gigs that eventually led them to be discovered and signed with Motown Records. Eventually, Michael Jackson signed with Epic Records for his first full creation control solo album called Off the Wall.
The film reveals many conflicts that Michael faces such as being held back by his controlling father, insecurity with his appearance from vitiligo, third-degree burns from a Pepsi commercial, addiction to painkillers, and the weight of global fame. Jaafar Jackson revealed that he was initially overwhelmed when filming. However, he was glad he was able to address major public misconceptions and humanize his uncle. Prince Jackson, who is Michael Jackson’s eldest son, was also behind the scenes as the executive producer. He felt highly emotional and hoped that his film helped the public gain a deeper understanding on who his father was behind the headlines.
Junior Luke Baumbach said “Ever since I saw the movie, I’ve only been listening to Michael Jackson. I love the recognition that he’s getting from this movie!”
Junior Nayeli Perla said, “I loved how they mixed Jaffar Jackson’s vocals into MJ’s songs. The amount of work the actors put into this movie is phenomenal.”
Go see Michael at your local movie theater before it’s too late! This movie would be a wonderful opportunity to also reminisce about some of Michael Jackson’s iconic songs such as “Billie Jean,” “Thriller,” Human Nature,” “Beat It,” and many more.
