The 2000s brought some of the most iconic TV series of all time. So much so, Bethpage students tended to prefer older series, produced in the 2000s, rather than ones from modern times. We interviewed over 50 students and found out which ones are the most popular.
Gossip Girl came in as a top contender amongst many. Gossip Girl is a drama series based on the novels by Cecily von Ziegesar, focusing on the scandalous lives of privileged teenagers on Manhattan’s Upper East Side produced from 2007 to 2012.
Senior Juliana Grgin says, ”I love the rich New York vibe, and how long the episodes are.”
Another popular contender among many was Gilmore Girls. Gilmore Girls, produced from 2000 to 2007, is a comedy-drama series centering on witty 32-year-old single mother Lorelai Gilmore and her intellectual teenage daughter, Rory. Set in the small town of Stars Hollow, CT, the show follows their close, coffee-fueled friendship, navigating relationships, career goals, and the rocky reunion with Lorelai’s wealthy parents.
Senior Grace Miller says this is her “comfort show.”
Senior Sophia Donovan loves “how it gives real life scenarios that can happen in any teenager’s life.”
Pretty Little Liars was another popular vote. Pretty Little Liars aired from 2010 to 2017 as a teen drama mystery-thriller about four estranged friends—Aria, Spencer, Hanna, and Emily—reunited one year after their queen bee leader, Alison DiLaurentis, disappears. They are tormented by an anonymous stalker named “A” who threatens to expose their darkest secrets.
Senior Madison Arthur says, “it is the best show ever and she can watch it a million times.”
Many other shows such as One Tree Hill, The OC, and Modern Family received votes among students. There is something about all these shows that provides viewers with a sense of comfort and nostalgia that makes them so addicting.
