Gabriella Russo is a senior at Bethpage High School who plays volleyball, is a strong participant in Empty Bowls, and is an extremely hard working student who maintains a 4.0 GPA. Gabby is committed to the University of Delaware for nursing. In this interview, The Eagles Cry dives into Gabby’s inner thoughts and some things many may not know.
The Eagles Cry: What motivates you to do what you do every day?
Gabby: “I think like the standard I set for myself. I’ve always thought I needed to have certain grades and be a certain way, especially with school, so just setting that standard helps me stick to it.”
The Eagles Cry: Who has had the biggest influence on your life, and why?
Gabby: “I’m gonna say Mr. Miller. He told so many stories with the common theme of doing things with your life that make you happy. How it doesn’t matter about what you’re making, or what you’re getting, how much money you’re making from it. He does them out of enjoyment and helping others. By telling us all these stories about his life, he has inspired me to do what I want.”
The Eagles Cry: What does a “good day” look like for you?
Gabby: “It’s a Friday, so an easy day at school. And then after school either go to the gym or on a walk or something. Maybe work but that wouldn’t be a good day haha. Then we get sushi later. Oh and there’s a party and we have a sleepover after.
The Eagles Cry: What’s a goal you’re working toward, and what makes it important to you?
Gabby: “Passing college and becoming a nurse because you have to maintain a higher GPA than all the other majors”
The Eagles Cry: How do you deal with pressure or stress?
Gabby: “I eat ice cream or something, that usually makes me feel better. And I can procrastinate too, so then all my stress and stuff gets pushed off.”
The Eagles Cry: If you could give one piece of advice to BHS students, what would it be?
Gabby: “To not take your time for granted and enjoy the moment. And not to get mad at people over stupid things. Kind of try to enjoy everything and not be in a bad mood all the time.”
What do you want people to remember about you?
The Eagles Cry: What’s something you’ve always wanted to try but haven’t yet?
Gabby: “I want to try playing the piano. Everytime I hear someone play the piano I’m so jealous. If I could just get on the piano and start playing my favorite song my life would be complete.
The Eagles Cry: Do you have any hidden talents?
Gabby: “I can play the harmonica, Piano Man specifically”
The Eagles Cry: If you could be any animal what would you be?
Gabby: “If I was an animal I’d be a bunny, because of that one show…Max and Ruby. They lived with all their friends in the cozy little holes underground.”
The Eagles Cry: If you could talk about anything for hours, what would it be?
Gabby: “Pop culture drama.”
