BHS offers many different sports, clubs, and activities that many students participate in. One club that is really popular is the drama club. BHS Senior Ava Mirabelli has dedicated her time to the drama club since a very young age, and her talent really stands out, from being a great actor, to an amazing vocalist. Recently, The Eagle’s Cry sat down with Ava to discuss her passion for drama, and the upcoming musical, The Drowsy Chaperone.
TEC: What made you want to join Drama Club?
I wanted to join because my family was very involved. My mom did drama in high school and college and my sister was doing it at middle school, so I decided to do it.
Who was your biggest motivator for joining the drama club?
Probably my mom or my grandma. They always supported me in my journey and to keep going.
What has been your favorite role to play?
My favorite are probably the one I am doing right now, Janet, and my favorite for ensemble was Catch Me If you Can and Little Mermaid.
Out of every show you have been in, what has been your favorite?
I loved Catch Me If You Can. It was so special because i had a great time and the show meant a lot to me
What role are you playing in this year’s musical?
I will be playing Janet Van De Graaff, the bride.
How does it feel being such a lead role?
It’s very rewarding after working all these years on shows because you build up confidence on stage.
How are rehearsals going for this year’s musical?
I say they are going pretty well considering our show is earlier than usual. We are in a great spot!
In just a few words, how would you describe this year’s musical, The Drowsy Chaperone, to someone who has never heard of it before?
Complex, comedic, and fun!

Since you are a senior, what are your plans outside of high school? Are you considering the arts as a hobby, or as your major?
I will be minoring in musical theater in college, in hopes I keep my passion alive as long as I can. And I will be majoring in psychology.
What is one piece of advice you would give to someone who is considering joining drama?
Give it a shot and don’t get intimated too quickly. A lot of times if can seem stressful and scary, but just give it a chance. It’s a bunch of fun!
