Bethpage High School’s Challenger Basketball team dominated the court this season. With star players such as Marissa Loccisano, Mike Bolarte, Matt Healey, Justin Solomon, Brandon Sierra, Ryan Bartley, Emma Coletta, Nicole Albergo, Matt Walter, Nick Cuozzo, Jake Fikar, Kristina Sandhu, Daniel Wilson, Brian Saccone, Dominic Natoli, Navviar Singh, Charles Restiano, Scott Pfeirfer, David Zalaya, Hannah Perkowsky, Tyler O’Brien, Jake Rusignolo, Erin Flynn, Joey Gilio, and Julia Fikar, the team was able to bring home some incredible wins and thrill its many fans.

The Eagle’s Cry interviewed some BHS students who attended the Challenger basketball team’s final game of the season, and they shared their excitement. Senior Katlyn Mahomar said, “I honestly got emotional. Watching them on the court just so happy and playing their heart out meant so much to me.”

Another student, senior Nick Whelan said, “This game was as entertaining than an NBA game.. Joey is the next Kobe.”

In their most recent game, the Challenger team went into overtime, and Bethpage won 64-54.

Even students who weren’t able to attend the games are happy for and proud of the team. BHS senior Noelle Grassel said, “I haven’t been able to attend a game yet, since i’m always scheduled to work the days of their games, but I look forward to hearing about how they did the next day.”

Although there are a number of very good players on the team, everyone plays and everyone seems to have a great time out on the court.

“I love to play with all of my friends” said Challenger team member Nicole Albergo. “This has been a great way to end my last year at Bethpage High School.”

The support this team gets from fellow students at Bethpage is astounding and something to be proud of. The Eagle’s Cry wishes congratulations to these incredible athletes for all of their successes.
