This week, The Eagle’s Cry is highlighting Iliana Fischer, a sophomore at Bethpage High School who is making a positive impact in our school community. Known for her dedication, positive attitude, amazing personality, and fantastic dance skills, Iliana is someone many students and teachers recognize around the school. Iliana is currently in Varsity Kickline and an out-of-school dance where she has been recognized for her talent. “I spend many hours a week at kickline and dancing. I started competition dance at 13 years old and have been dancing at Norma’s since 2nd grade. In 7th grade I was on both routines on the JFK Middle School kickline team; in 8th grade I made the BHS junior varsity kickline team and also competed in all routines. By my freshman year of high school, I made varsity kickline and earned a spot in all routines. Our season is from the end of May to the beginning of March, and I just completed my second year of varsity kickline with a spot in nationals in all four routines!”
Through her participation, she has shown great leadership, teamwork, and determination towards her art. Balancing athletics, academics, and other responsibilities can be difficult, especially when Iliana is in many hard classes, but Iliana always locks in and keeps her school and home life balanced, and that keeps her succeeding in and out of the classroom. We asked her what she likes to do in her free time, and she said, “I like to paint. I like to hang out with my friends and family and…homework.” Friend and classmate Juliette Sparke described her as “Iliana is very hard working and cool, especially at Battle of the Classes when she was the last sophomore for musical chairs. Everyone was chanting her name.”
Some extra questions we asked:
The Eagle’s Cry: What is your favorite place you have traveled to, and why?
Illiana: “Greece because I got to travel to multiple islands and see a lot of historical architecture that I learned about during my freshman year of high school.”
The Eagle’s Cry: What motivates you to work extremely hard?
Illiana: “I have a lot of goals and dreams, and the work that I put in now will affect the outcome of my future, so I’m motivated to do well.”
The Eagle’s Cry: Who is someone that inspires you?
Illiana: “My mom inspires me because she is a single mom, and she has a lot of work and dedication to making sure that she’s there for me all the time. She comes through all of my events and is my number one supporter.”
The Eagle’s Cry: What class would you not recommend for future sophomores?
Illiana: “I enjoy all of my classes, and I’m taking my sophomore year.”
Iliana Fischer continues to represent exactly what we at The Eagle’s Cry and Bethpage want to be with her hard work and positive attitude. We look forward to seeing what she will accomplish next.
