Zodiac signs are often used to explain personality traits, moods, and behavior based on when someone is born. There are twelve zodiac signs because there are twelve months in the year, and each one comes with its own “traits” that might show up in a person’s personality, like Cancers being emotional or Leos being confident. For a lot of people, astrology is an easy way to describe themselves, but it can also be used as an excuse for their actions.
People have very different opinions when it comes to zodiac signs. Many believe that zodiac signs do give an accurate perspective on a person’s personality traits. On the other hand, BHS Senior and Eagles Cry reporter Tasnim Adhree said, “I think it’s stupid that people use zodiac signs to rationalize everything around them. Your circumstances have nothing to do with when you were born or what’s happening with the planets, but everything to do with your behavior and environment. While it can be fun, astrology is ultimately not real.
Zodiac signs are also really popular online, from memes to horoscopes. Horoscopes are predictions or advice based on your zodiac sign, usually written for each day, week, or month. Many horoscopes are written in a general way so lots of people can relate, which is why they sometimes feel true. Some even use astrology to see if they “match” with friends or partners, showing it can be fun socially too.
In this reporter’s opinion, zodiac signs are fun to talk about, but they shouldn’t be taken too seriously. While astrology can be entertaining and relatable, using it to excuse behavior or judge people doesn’t really make sense. At the end of the day, people are more than just their zodiac sign, and you can’t predict what’s coming in their future just based on the stars.
