Since social media has been waiting for the return of the 2016 era after nearly a decade, many people in 2026 want to revisit old fashion trends such as chokers, popular music, and even the famous Unicorn Frappuccino from Starbucks. One of the biggest flashbacks from 2016 was Vevo, the music video platform that dominated pop culture during the mid-2010s. Artists like Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, and One Direction released videos through Vevo that gained billions of views, making the “VEVO” logo recognizable in the corner of almost every popular music video.
Although Vevo was extremely popular during the 2010s, it started to lose its popularity as music culture changed. Most people watched Vevo videos on YouTube rather than using Vevo’s own app or website. At the same time, streaming platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music , along with apps like TikTok changed the way people discovered and listened to music. Instead of watching full music videos, many people became more interested in short clips, trends, and playlists.
BHS Senior Michaela Perillo explained. “I would just look up Vevo and the music video would pop up. It’s kinda nostalgic in a way.” In addition, BHS Junior, Sophie Heusel stated, “I always see it in the corner of music videos, but there’s something more interesting about it. I love it. I think it shaped my childhood in a way. Seeing the “VEVO” logo in the corner of music videos was nostalgic”. These reactions show how Vevo became an important part of many people’s childhood memories and 2016 trend culture.
Even though Vevo is no longer as popular as it once was, many people still remember it as a major part of growing up during the 2010s. Vevo became a symbol of music culture during 2016 and continues to remind people of a nostalgic era of the internet.
