You might have seen an unfamiliar face in the building recently. The new substitute teacher, Ms. Obregon has been in the building for a few weeks now. Soon, she will be running her own Physical Education classes for students at BHS. She previously worked at Kramer Lane, and is now starting her teaching career at the High School.
Ms. Obregon did not always want to become a teacher. Her original field in college was physical therapy. She soon realized that she wanted to be a teacher but still wanted to study in the physical education field. She decided she wanted to become a gym teacher since it mixed her two careers together.
Ms. Obregon believes that Bethpage High School is a great fit for her because, “it is a great atmosphere with a positive environment.” She loves her coworkers and enjoys getting to know and work with the ACE students. What you might not know about Ms. Obregon is that she is a two time national cheerleading champion for Hofstra University’s Division I program. She loves all aspects of Cheerleading and is excited to continue with it for athletes at BHS. She is the cheer coach for Bethpage Highschool and she took her team through a great season this year. Eagles Cry editor, Madison Athur says, “she is sweet and is easy to talk to.” Many students at BHS have had the great opportunity to be coached by Ms. Obregon is very excited to start the next season.
Mrs. Obregon loves Physical Education because it “allows students to move around and express themselves by finding new skills, while also having fun.” She tries to relate her classes to the real world and current events, such as the Olympics. Ms. Obregon loves to make her students enjoy her class by creating a fun environment.
Aside from teaching, Ms. O loves cooking, and going to the boardwalk. She says that, “if I was not a teacher I would love to be a chef.” She loves to stay active while also having fun, which she does through Pilates. Ms. Obregon has a very positive way of life and she is a firm believer in everything happens for a reason and not everything has to be perfect. Everyone at BHS is excited to see how she adapts to the students and staff.
