On November 3rd, BHS AP and College Spanish classes took the LIRR to Penn Station, and walked to the Edge, an outdoor sky deck with glass floors located on the 100th floor of 30 Hudson Yards in Manhattan. Students were able to take pictures, visit the gift shop, and experience an amazing view of the city. Students also got to order food and drinks from Starbucks before journeying to the Edge.
After visiting the Edge, students headed to Little Spain for meals, drinks, and desserts. Little Spain is a large indoor Spanish food market that is inspired by historic mercados of Spain. It is an all-day dining place that brings the best products and recipes from Spain to Hudson Yards in New York City. In Little Spain, there are several Spanish restaurants, tapa bars, and food stalls. Senior Tara Gyaltsen said, “I really enjoyed the patatas bravas at Little Spain, they were really delicious and it was a delightful experience”. We also interviewed Mrs. Oak, who planned the Spanish trip and asked her what she thought of the trip.
TEC: What did you hope the students would get out of this trip?
Mrs. Oak: I wanted my students to be able to have this fun experience together with each other before graduating from BHS and going on their separate ways to college. I also wanted them to have the experience of visiting Little Spain and tasting some Spanish cuisine. Also for the students who are not afraid of heights, visiting the edge is an unforgettable moment.
TEC: What was your favorite part of the trip?
Mrs. Oak: Probably my favorite part is when we get up to the observation deck at the edge and I get to see an excitement and enthusiasm in my students that we don’t ordinarily see on a daily basis in the classroom.
