Your Bethpage Golden Eagles football team is off to a great start led by senior captains James Lipetri, Jack Poppe, and Chase Solliday. Starting off super-strong is great for the morale of the team and is making practice something to look forward to. In the last few years the football team has been very down and we didn’t look like we should have. But this year is different for the school. If football is winning, the school is happy and fans expect us to put on a great performance. They have not disappointed yet, but with a Game vs South Side they are looking for a statement win. Here is a game-by-game breakdown of their victorious season so far.
Week 1: Bethpage at Elmont
In week one, all the odds were against Bethpage. Going into this game, we were the underdogs. But on the first play of the game Louis Schneider took the opening kickoff to the house. He led Bethpage with 178 all purpose yards. Bethpage ended up winning this game 33-26.
Week 2: Bethpage vs Manhasset
In week two, Bethpage went into this game very confident to come away with the win. Even though Bethpage isn’t a passing offense, James Lipetri and Micheal Mastrangelo had themselves a good day. James Lipetri had 4 catches for 101 yards and a touchdown. He also added an interception. Bethpage won this game 33-14.
Week 3: Bethpage at Valley Stream North
In week three, Bethpage went into Valley stream very confidently again and they didn’t disappoint. Bethpage’s defense had a very good day on the opposite side of the ball. Christian Edwards had a 56 yard pick six to seal the win for the Eagles. Bethpage won this game 41-7.
Week 4: Bethpage vs South Side
In week four, Bethpage had their biggest game of the year. It was at home and there senior night so for the home crowd they had to come out strong. But again this Bethpage defense isn’t something to mess with. South Side couldn’t connect on one touchdown through this whole game. With 4:13 left in the game Bethpage put together a game-winning drive. They did just that driving 97 yards down the field to win the game. Vincent Morice punched in the touchdown and the Eagles came away with this 8-2.
Week 5: Bethpage at Hewlett
In week five, Bethpage just came off a huge win against South Side and they were determined to take care of Hewlett during the week. Vincent Morice had himself a day tallying 6 carries for 64 yards and 3 touchdowns. On the defensive side, Jack Poppe led the team with 12 tackles and Joe Traversa had 10 tackles. Bethpage won this game 27-0.
Week 6: Bethpage at Wantagh
In a tough loss week six, Bethpage went into this game very confident that they would take care of business but that wasn’t the case. Chase Solliday rushed for 135 yards and 2 touchdowns. Bethpage took their first loss 35-12.
Week 7: Bethpage vs Mineola
In week seven, Bethpage was coming for vengeance after their loss last week to Wantagh. Bethpage quarterback Michael Mastrangelo had himself a good day. He threw for 113 Yards and 2 touchdowns to lead host Bethpage and Joe Traversa caught both touchdown passes with an interception. Bethpage won this game 42-0.
Week 8: Bethpage vs Carey
In week 8, Bethpage was playing one seeded Carey and had to secure a home playoff game with a win. They did just that Vincent Morice led the way with 64 yards and 2 touchdowns. Bethpage was clicking on all cylinders and they secured their home playoff game vs Floral Park. Bethpage won the game 28-14.
Week 9: Bethpage vs Floral Park
In week 9, Bethpage was determined to bring this win home for the home crowd. For the Bethpage seniors this was their last time stepping on the field for their magical season. The junior Louis Schneider had himself a great one for their playoff game. He ran for 91 yards and 2 touchdowns. Bethpage took this one by a score of 35-6.
Week 10: Bethpage at South Side
The 3 seeded Bethpage Eagles vs the 2 seeded South Side Cyclones. This game was hosted at Hofstra and was a rematch that both teams wanted. Bethpage was ready for this matchup and last time they saw each other Bethpage took it by a score of 8-2. Senior Chase Solliday took over this game with 165 rushing yards and all three touchdowns. Bethpage didn’t throw the ball one time this game and they did the old fashioned ground and pound vs a very good South Side team. Bethpage won this game 18-15.
Week 11: Bethpage vs Wantagh
The 3 seeded Bethpage took on 4 seeded Wantagh Bethpage comes into this game 9-1 and Wantagh is 7-3. Bethpage’s only loss this year was against them so they were coming for it all. This game was at Hofstra and whoever won this game was onto the Long Island Championship. Bethpage came into this game and took a lead of 14-0. Bethpage was feeling good until Wantagh put up 2 fantastic drives to make the game 14-13 going into the half. Then Wantagh capitalized with 2 touchdowns to make it 28-14. Bethpage scored to make it 28-21 but they came too short. Their magical season came too short and they should be proud of what they accomplished. Chase Solliday rushed for 125 yards and 2 touchdowns and James Lipetri had 3 catches for 60 yards and a touchdown.
