Marine Fitness at Bethpage is a very fun and challenging sport with strong comradery among the athletes. Competitions include the following events: plank, push ups, standing long jump, pull ups, and the shuttle run.
One of the best parts of Marine Fitness is the trip to Nationals every year. This year, the competition was supposed to take place in California, but was cancelled due to the war with Iran. Instead, it was held at South Bronx High School, and the Bethpage team went to Six Flags as an alternative to the California trip.
The girls team had a phenomenal performance at Nationals, taking first place overall. Here’s all the girls that placed:
1st: Addy Moerler
2nd: Jess Marzano
3rd: Kiera O’shea
5th: Juliette Sparke
6th: Lianna Appice
The boys team placed second with an equally impressive performance. BHS senior Lion Jiang got 3rd place overall.
Marine Fitness is a great sport, but it’s a small group and we’re always looking for more members. Sophomore Addy Menz said, “I love marine fitness because it’s a very physically demanding activity and it helps me with my physical and mental tuffness and endurance.”
An anonymous BHS freshman said, “I joined marine fitness because it’s tuffy.”
