According to Dictionary.com, the slang term ‘’67″ has been named Dictionary.com’s 2025 Word of the Year. The term can mean ‘’so-so’’ or ‘’maybe this, maybe that’’, but it is often used nonsensically and its exact meaning is unclear. ‘’6-7’’ is already being added by dictionaries as their 2025 Word of the Year, reflecting its viral, elusive, and culturally significant meaning in online slang. Though its definition remains intentionally vague, making it more of a linguistic phenomenon than a traditional word. The term exploded in popularity, especially among younger generations on social media.
Dictionary.com chose it to show how language evolves, even when the meaning isn’t clear, capturing a moment in internet culture. Its ambiguity and nonsensical nature, often accompanied by a hand gesture, leave parents and older generations puzzled. ‘’6-7” is an inside joke, a placeholder for something funny, weird, or just ‘’brain rot’’. It’s used to express a feeling or reaction without needing a concrete definition. In essence, ‘’6-7’’ is not a word in the traditional sense, but its massive impact made it a perfect candidate for dictionary recognition as a reflection of modern digital communication.
