March 27th, MLB Opening Day. With 28 teams getting ready to start their seasons later today, excitement is high around the country. The Eagle’s Cry broke down the top story lines heading into tonight’s games.
- Starting Pitching
- Numerous starters are making monumental starts later today. Reigning rookie of the year winner, Paul Skenes, will make his first opening day start. Clay Holmes will get the nod for the Mets in his first game as a starting pitcher. And Louis Severino, Blake Snell, Yesei Kikuchi, and Garret Crochet will make their first starters for their new teams.
- Division Face Offs
- Numerous teams will play games against their division rivals including The Orioles and Blue Jays, Nationals and Phillies, Guardians and Royals, and the Athletics and Mariners. These teams head right into the fire as division games have big impacts on the rest of the season.
- Yankees and Mets
- Coming off an offseason where numerous former Yankees went to the Mets in free agency including superstar, Juan Soto, there is a lot of excitement in these two teams opening day contests. Fans across BHS are repping both teams as opening day games are around the corner. BHS English Teacher Mr. Malossi, “Last playoffs, Mets fans were so much happier than Yankees fans. That’s because we don’t expect them to win, so when they do…it’s pure joy. That joy will continue this season, unless the Mets Met. In that case, Yankee fans will still be unhappy.”
