BHS Reviews: New Percy Jackson

BHS+Reviews%3A+New+Percy+Jackson

In July 2005, the first Percy Jackson book was released. More than 18 years later, Percy Jackson and the Olympian is released on Disney Plus.

One episode is released every Tuesday at exactly 9 p.m. As of today, seven episodes have been released. If you plan on becoming a fan, Percy Jackson is a hit book series that is based on Greek demigods. A demigod is basically the child of a god, like Apollo or Athena, and a mortal. The world isn’t safe for half-bloods, another name for demigods, so they are sent to a sanctuary called Camp Half-Blood. Here, many demigods find refuge and they train to be able to fight off monsters. The main character, Percy Jackson, is the son of Poseidon, god of the seas, and throughout the entire book, he goes on a quest to find Zeus’ stolen lightning bolt to prevent a war between the gods.

Many fans have anticipated the release of this TV series, and there are many positive reviews. One junior said the show is “amazing and the actors really fit the characters’ personality”. Another student, a sophomore, said that she “was so excited for the tv show, and it exceeded expectations.”

The new show is a great adaptation of the books, but people have started controversies over the casting. In the books, two of the main protagonists are Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase. Annabeth Chase was described as a blonde teenager with grey eyes, and many people are pressed over the fact that the actress doesn’t look like her.

Honestly, I think the casting for Annabeth is great since the actress, Leah Sava Jeffries, really fits the entire personality and character of Annabeth. Rick Riordan, the author, chose Leah himself, so that should say something. On the other hand, the main character Percy Jackson was described as a teenage boy with black hair, and people are mad over the fact that Walker Socbell, the actor, is blonde. That’s a weird thing to get mad over, and it’s not that big of a deal.

Even if you never read the books, this show is still a great series to get into.
