NFL PREDICTIONS WITH ACKERLY & MERTZ: WEEK SIX
October 14, 2022
Week 6 has come and gone. By now—you know the drill—Mertz and I will be going head-to-head once again. However, before we get into next week let us recap.
Last Week’s Locks and Upsets
You may be asking yourself, why are we grouping the locks and upsets of last week into one? BECAUSE IT’S TIME TO GET THE BROOMS OUT! Me and Mertz combined for a 4-0 record with our locks and upsets last week. My lock of the Bills turned out to be the true lock as the Bills dismantled the lowly Steelers 38-3. My upset, the Colts squeaked one out in primetime 12-9 over the Denver Broncos. Mertz also had quite the lock with his Patriots tearing apart the Lions 29-0 and his upset didn’t seem like one when the Jets destroyed the Dolphins 40-17.It’s safe to say that the spotlight picks went well this week, now let’s look at the totals.
Total Results
Mertz once again took it home with a 13-3 record compared to my disgraceful 10-6. This brings the season totals to 25-6 and 20-11 in favor of Mertz.
Week 6
With the Week 5 recap out of the way, let us move on to week 6. Mertz…get us started.
Mertz’s Lock Of The Week
The Green Bay Packers went across the pond last Sunday and got upset by the New York Giants but now they’re back home in the great state of Wisconsin and they are not losing two in a row to the joke teams of New York. Aaron Rodgers will cook against the New York Jets that are susceptible to giving up the big play. Packers are a 🔒.
Green Bay Packers def. New York Jets
Mertz’s Upset Alert!
This may sound crazy but… the Pittsburgh Steelers will beat Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. We’re looking at two teams that have top 5 defenses and bottom 5 offenses and you’d think Tom Brady would get the edge in the battle against a rookie QB. But he’s not. Kenny Pickett will have Acrisure Stadium (It’s still Heinz Field to me) rocking as the hometown kid gets his first career win and ends the Steelers 4 game losing streak.
Pittsburgh Steelers def. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Rest Of Mertz’s Picks
Washington Commanders def. Chicago Bears
San Francisco 49ers def. Atlanta Falcons
New England Patriots def. Cleveland Browns
Jacksonville Jaguars def. Indianapolis Colts
Minnesota Vikings def. Miami Dolphins
Cincinnati Bengals def. New Orleans Saints
Baltimore Ravens def. New York Giants
Los Angeles Rams def. Carolina Panthers
Seattle Seahawks def. Arizona Cardinals
Kansas City Chiefs def. Buffalo Bills
Philadelphia Eagles def. Dallas Cowboys
Los Angeles Chargers def. Denver Broncos
Thanks Mertz, now it’s for some redemption.
Ackerly’s Lock Of The Week
The Carolina Panthers have had a horrendous beginning to their 2022 campaign. Facing the defending super bowl champs this week post a coach firing will make it even worse. The Los Angeles Rams should have no problem defeating the now PJ Walker led Panthers, although at this point…any QB is an upgrade over Baker Mayfield.
Los Angeles Rams def. Carolina Panthers
Ackerly’s Upset Alert!
The Atlanta Falcons were screwed last week, there is no way around it. A horrible roughing the passer call cost them a win against franchise arch-nemesis Tom Brady and this week I guarantee they are out for revenge. A home date with the 49ers should give the Falcons an opportunity to add one to their win column. Will they seize this opportunity? I believe so.
Atlanta Falcons def. San Francisco 49ers
