BHS Students Volunteer at Nassau Victory Games
On Friday, June 3 a group of seniors, Mr. Lynch, and Mrs. Indenbaum volunteered at the Nassau County Victory Games. The seniors all actively participated in BHS’s Community Outreach Responsibility Experience (CORE) throughout the year and saw this trip as a reward for their continuous efforts.
The Victory Games is an Olympic-style event for special needs students in the Long Island region. Bethpage has partaken in its success for the past four years; this year was no different. “To see the happiness on the faces of participants and our volunteers makes it one of the best days of the year,” said Mr. Lynch.
Many seniors were nostalgic as this was their final field trip as a BHS students, and reflected on the Games being the best one. “It was a rewarding experience to see the joy it brought to see the participants and volunteers,” said Brooke Radcliffe.
Others were inspired by the determination and strength of the participants, whose ages ranged from six to 21 years old. “They always finished their race with the biggest smile on their face and it was very inspiring,” said Jamie Olanick.
