On Friday, October 3, Taylor Swift released her new album titled The Life of a Showgirl. Her new album consists of 12 songs, including the lead single “The Fate of Ophelia.” This album consists of more pop songs, unlike her recent albums like folklore or Evermore. Some fans think this album is the type of music they want to hear from Swift. Others believe this album is not as good as hyped up to be.
The Eagles Cry interviewed students the day of the release, meaning they have only listened to the album once.
Senior Tara Gyaltsen, who considers herself a big swiftie, says, “I like some of the songs, like The Fate of Ophelia and Opalite, but all the other songs sounded the same. I was expecting it to sound more like her 2014 pop album 1989, because it is produced by Max Martin, the same producer as 1989. But it sounds like AI wrote it. Or that her fiancee Travis Kelce wrote it.”
Junior Sophia Marullo agrees that The Fate of Ophelia and Opalite are the two best songs off the album. “I’ve been listening to those songs on repeat!”
Sophomore Juliette Sparke states, “I really enjoyed the album! I only listened to it once, so I think it will continue to grow on me, but I enjoyed my first listen!”
We have now had about 2 weeks to process this album. Here are their opinions now!
Senior Tara Gyaltsen follows up, “I still agree. I do like some songs. The Fate of Ophelia is actually really good. I don’t know about the others. Wood is kinda weird, especially the weird lyrics that I can not talk about because this is a school newspaper.”
Junior Sophia Marullo says, “I think it is OK. I still love The Fate of Ophelia and Opalite. I am a big fan of The Life of a Showgirl with Sabrina Carpenter and CANCELLED!”
Sophomore Juliette Sparke, “At first I did not like some of them, but now I love everything! I can’t even choose my favorite!”
This writer of the article believes that this album is better than what people make it out to be! I love this sound from Taylor and I would love to hear more of it. I am a proud defender of this album and will NOT tolerate the hate! Respectfully!
So, what do you think of her new album? Some Swifties love that she is bringing back her pop hits, others think that this is a weaker album.
