Teenagers (including adults) have an addiction to using their phone every second of the day. It’s been calculated that the average person spends 4 hours and 37 minutes on their cell phone daily. This has been a major conversation among schools, as it may be causing children to focus less in school. However, New York state has made a final decision on the debate. New York State has restricted the usage of cellphones for teenagers in school. The debate of whether schools should be permitted for iphones has been rejected by the state but it remains a topic of discussion especially among children themselves. Is this decision fair among kids and is there a better alternative? This will be answered by kids and teachers who attend Bethpage High School, and might be affected by the ban.
Many students are unhappy with the new phone ban across New York State schools. Ava Giafrancesco, a junior at BHS, believes that “the phone ban isn’t actually happening next year.” Another anonymous BHS student thinks that “having no phones is extremely dangerous, especially for seniors next year.” Juliana Giglio said, “I hate it- I feel like the teachers should enforce the caddies more”.
However, some think the phone ban in New York state is necessary. An anonymous BHS student said, “It forces kids to give their undivided attention to teachers and helps them concentrate more”.
Overall, the feelings on the phone ban are pretty mutual amongst BHS students- everyone thinks that the phone ban will do more harm than good.
