On June 12, 2025 around 7:40 am, Bethpage High School’s faculty and students were evacuated to JFK Middle School due to a bomb threat. Many students were unaware of what was happening as it wasn’t confirmed whether it was just an evacuation or a threat to the school. However, a majority of students were glad to be able to miss another couple hours of school. A few students and teachers were interviewed about their perspective on this incident.
Juniors Lilibeth Simon and Jamie Soto both said, “It was really disappointing. We were both really sad that we had to go back to school for fourth period.”
Riya Anna Eby, a senior at BHS, said, “Since I have first period off, I was ready to go to school but when I got the message from my mom, I was devastated that school may have been canceled because I was waiting to get my yearbook to be signed and was nervous that I would not be able to.”
This event was similar to last year where another bomb threat occurred. Similarly, students were ushered out, guided to JFK as one big mob, and separated by grades. Unfortunately, like last year, students and teachers were unaware of information about the bomb threat, the return back to the High School, and responded ubiquitously, “we have no idea” or “we aren’t told anything either.”
Having been through this experience, the staff was well prepared and students were able to return to school around 9:30 AM, which was the fourth period of the day.
Ms. Garvey and Mrs. Dulaney, teachers of Bethpage High School had stated, “I was actually surprised. I think the students were excellent and the whole evacuation practice process was very smooth. Even the police complimented our process. We were all safe and we feel great to be back in school. Every room was secured, and we have a safe environment to return to.”
When asked for more information, a BHS administrator chose not to comment.
Fortunately, all students and staff were safe. No one was harmed during this incident and everyone returned to their normal school day.
