Ranging from sales of 250 to 300 million records, popular for over half a century, six number one singles, the 70s renowned rock band Queen continues to leave a mark on the music industry to this day.
Queen was an influential rock band consisting of six members: Freddie Mercury, a singer, Brian May, guitarist, Roger Taylor, the drumist, and John Deacon, a bass guitarist. Despite Freddie Mercury’s death in 1991, the rest of the members continue to stay active with Roger Taylor and Brian May still touring.
Specifically, Bryan May, the lead guitarist, made an on-stage appearance at Coachella 2025 with renowned pop artist, Benson Boone. Their reminiscent performance of “Bohemian Rhapsody” quickly pervaded through social media platforms. This dual concert served as a catalyst for the revival of some of Queen’s older, prominent songs.
Carys Cho, a Senior at Bethpage Highschool said “Its crazy because other famous old bands are coming back too like The Cranberries, Radiohead and like The Sundays”
Throughout their time, Queen had many hits that landed them grammy awards, number one singles, and an extremely distinguished fanbase. A couple of their most popular songs are titled, “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “We Will Rock You”, and “Another One Bites the Dust”. Each song has reached number one in either the UK or the US, exemplifying the impact of Queen and their large fanbase.
An anonymous Bethpage student commented “I’m not really a fan of Benson Boone but I’m glad old bands like Queen are coming back.”
Queen will forever remain one of the most influential bands of all time with their captivating and nostalgic music. Their strong presence in the music industry today suggests a promising revival of additional older, well-known bands.
