On Monday, May 5th, 2025, high-end fashion brands came together to sponsor the annual MET gala, a fundraiser event where all of the revenue goes to the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Department. The MET’s Costume Department has fashion eras ranging from the 1880s, to today, to even the “Bar Dress” from the House of Christian Dior. The Department is entirely self-funded, and a one-person ticket costs $75,000.
This year’s theme was “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” Today, The Eagle’s Cry gives you some outfits and our opinions and rankings.
Best outfits:
- Doechii in Louis Vuitton. Her outfit is the star of the MET because she checks every single thing from the tailoring of suits and gives it this old money fashion sense. 10/10.
2. Anok Yai in Thom Browne. Her outfit is very classic in my personal opinion because her outfit fits the theme and yet encapsulates the idea of vintage and modern all in one. I give it a 9.8/10.
3. Rihanna in Marc Jacobs. Honestly love this was on theme and I would actually tie her with Anok Yai’s outfit. That hat suits her so well and reminds me of old money. Its sort of like a mix of Great Gatsby. 10/10.
4. A$AP Rocky in AGWE and Christian Louboutin shoes. He is one of the co-chairs this year and I appreciate everything in this look. The hair, the suit and the outfit was perfect. 9.8/10
5. Teyana Taylor in Ruth E. Carter is one of the best outfits I’ve seen this year. I appreciate how the red and the black contrast with each other and fits with the theme. 10/10
Worst outfits:
- Hailey Beiber in Saint Laurent. Someone send this girl back to the fashion stylist and the studio. What is going on and why is it just a plain suit? There is nothing going on and with that money she has from Justin Beiber it better buy her a fashion sense. 1/10.
2. Halle Berry in LaQuan Smith and Cartier Jewelry. Why is this outfit so revealing? It’s modest yet exposing everything on the bottom. I know she can do better than that considering she’s an icon but this year this is traumatizing. 0/10.
3. Jaden Smith in Ozwald Boateng. This is the Met Gala not MOMA. This is not contemporary nor abstract art. It is a disaster and the wire is not doing him justice. -5/10.
4. Amelia Gray in Valentino. First of all, not on theme. Second of all whoever was your stylist set you up for failure. I really hope this is a stylist decision and not your decision on your end. Someone needs to get this girl out of the MET Gala and redo her entire outfit because whatever this was it had a lot going on. This is not a 3 in 1 clothing deal. -10/10.
