Over spring break, BHS’s seniors ventured to Europe on Ms. Way’s annual Senior Spring Break Trip, and today The Eagle’s Cry will share all the details that made this trip an unforgettable experience.
After a lengthy travel day, the seniors hit the ground running at their first stop, Prague! Here, the group walked around the Easter village held in the Old Town Square, enjoying treats such as the Chimney Cake, a traditional Czech dessert. Next, they enjoyed a walking tour around the city, admiring the Charles Bridge, Prague Castle, Astronomical Clock, and St. Vitus Cathedral. Seniors finished their long day with a delicious dinner and quick tube ride back to the hotel, getting ready for their next stop.
Abby O’Hara said, “I really liked Prague; it was a great way to start the trip!”
The journey continued as seniors crossed the border into Germany! Stopping in Nuremberg, they toured the Hall of Justice, where the trials of the Nazis following World War II took place. After the historical tour, they had lunch in a little village near the Imperial Castle of Nuremberg. They continued their travels, ending their night with a dinner in Munich. Seniors began their next day in Munich, participating in a walking tour that explored famous landmarks of the city such as the Nymphenburg Palace and the Marienplatz. After lunch, the group toured both BMW World and the Olympic Park, where the 1972 Olympics occurred. To finish the day, they did a bike tour around a local park area and had dinner at a popular restaurant in the area.
Nora Kerrigan said, “I really enjoyed our stop in Germany! Swimming in the pool at the Olympic Park and the bike tour were definitely highlights of the trip.”
Before reaching their next destination of Salzburg, Austria, the group stopped at the Herrenchiemsee Palace, built by King Ludwig II. The tour included looks at some of the amazing architecture that closely resembles the Palace of Versailles located in France. Their journey continued on to Salzburg, where they finished the day with dinner. Next, the students were immersed in the city of Salzburg during a walking tour past the Mirabell Garden, Salzburg Cathedral, Mozartplatz, and even the birthplace of Mozart, seeing all the spots you may recognize from the infamous movie, The Sound of Music. In fact, TEC’s very own Zach Fradella PROMposed to his girlfriend Maidson Szillus at the Mirabell Gardens using a Sound of Music referenced sign that read “DoReMi, Prom with me?” and fortunately she said YES! After a quick trip up to the top of Salzburg to see the Hohensalzburg Fortress, seniors then went north to the Salzwelten Salt Mine for a unique experience. Here, they traveled through a salt mine, learning the history of salt mining in a fun and interactive way. Students ended their adventurous day with a dinner at the oldest restaurant in the world that featured an opera show during their meal.
Zach Fradella said, “Salzburg was beautiful and was definitely a memorable stop. The salt mine was really, really cool!”
After a long week, this group finally reached their last destination. After a 12-hour bus ride, which was initially supposed to be 6 hours, students finally reached Venice! While the extended bus ride was not ideal, the chaperones organized fun games such as Chaperone Trivia and Tour-Bus Idol to help pass the time. During their busy day in Venice, students walked around the Piazza San Marco, the center square, took a gondola ride through the canals, and toured Doge’s Palace, as well as walked the Rialto Bridge. Students were given extra time to explore the city on their own for some lunch and shopping. In the afternoon, students visited the Murano Glass Blowing Factory, where they watched a demonstration of a professional making a glass-blown vase. They ended their last day of the trip with a traditional Italian dinner of pizza.
Emma Krittman said, “Venice was my favorite place we went to. It was so pretty and there was lots of great shopping!”
Over the course of 8 days, seniors traveled through 4 countries, experiencing the culture, food, and sights of 4 different countries. This spring break trip to Europe is definitely one these students will never forget! We’d like to thank Ms. Way for organizing the trip, as well as Mrs. Pané, Mr. Benjamin, and Tom for chaperoning!
