On Friday March 27, 2025 BHS Senior members of the National Honors Society contributed to a Habitat for Humanity Project in Bellport. Students spent the day learning about the foundation and structure of a house. Additionally, we learned about the Habitat foundation and how it works. Habitat for humanity eases the financial burden of low income families living in unsafe situations to become homeowners. In return for the home, families volunteer at other Habitat sites—”sweat equity”— and the foundation offers the family an affordable mortgage.
The home we worked on will be for a family of four.
BHS students along with Chaperones Mrs. Scigs and Mr. Jantz hammered planks of wood together for window and door frames and corners of the house.
Senior Zach Fradella said, “It was a ton of fun and a unique field trip.”
We ended the day by signing a door frame and celebrating our day of hard work.
The construction crew was knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. Thank you to all participants and chaperones for an overall great experience!
