Last week, BHS experienced World Language week, a festive celebration of various countries, languages, and cultures. This week included musical performances on BHS News by Bethpage’s very own, special spirit week themes, and everyone’s favorite part: the poster competition.
Today, The Eagle’s Cry will recap World Language week by asking students and faculty what their favorite part was.
Every morning, the BHS News displayed clips of some of BHS’s most talented musicians playing authentic cultural pieces to highlight the diversity of expression that is emphasized during this special week. Listed below are all of the performers and their talents:
Bam Bam Hattakitkosol, senior, performed “La Vie en Rose,” a traditional french song…
Hailey Hartman, senior, performed “O Sole Mio,” a traditional Italian song…
Stacy Martinez, performed “Besame,” a traditional Spanish song…
Additionally, the world language teachers composed their very own spirit week themes in which students and faculty were able to participate! The week’s themes included:
My Country Monday: wear colors that represent your family’s culture or flag…
Tourist Tuesday: wear clothing from any place you’ve visited or wish you could travel to…
Famous Faces Wednesday: dress as a notable figure from a culture related to any of the languages studied here at BHS…
Traditional Thursday: dress in traditional clothing from country/ethnic background…
Jersey Friday: wear a jersey from your favorite international team…
The most notable part of the week is the poster competition! This year, the theme for the poster competition was “World Languages World Citizens.” All posters were displayed in the lobby where every World Language class at BHS went and voted on their favorite posters. Below, the winners are listed and at the end of the article are pictures of the top 3 posters!
In 1st place was junior, Rayya Zheng!
In 2nd place was freshamn, Valeria Garcia!
And, in 3rd place, TEC’s very own, senior, Julia Baumbach!
Congrats to all the winners and thank you to everyone who participated in making World Language Week a success! It was a wonderful celebration of culture, creativity, and community.
