There were films and actors that were at the Oscars and are controversial because of their past and their speeches. The film “Emilia Perez” was nominated 13 times by the Academy for different Oscar categories. The movie gained controversy for its poor depiction of Mexican cartels and for the leading actress Sofia Garscon’s controversial tweets. Adrian Brody won the Oscar for Actor in a leading role in the film “The Brutalist” and while this isn’t the first time he gained a highly prestigious award, his speech became the longest speech ever at the Oscars. The actor was under crossfire for tossing his gum to his girlfriend prior to accepting the award, and bragged about gaining two Oscars. “The Brutalist” had used AI in the production of the film which got outrage from Netizens. Some have said actors like Timothee Chamelet, and Sebastian Stan should have won the Oscar instead.
On the good side, the film “Anora” won the awards: Best Picture, Best actress, Best director, best original screenplay, and best film editing. The star of the movie “Anora” Mikey Madison won this award at the young age of 25 years old. The movie studio Neon is an indie production which is a major accomplishment for them. The movie “Flow” won the Best Animated Feature award. “Flow” is a Latvian movie from a small indie production about a black cat’s survival in a post-apocalyptic world. The animation was made entirely on the program Blender which is a free source. Paul Tazwell, the costume designer of “Wicked” became the first black man to win an Oscar for costume design.
