This past Sunday, the 67th annual Grammys 2025 occurred in California. The amazing Trevor Noah hosted the event. Performers such as Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, and Benson Boone took the Grammys stage to perform their biggest hits.
Well-deserved awards were handed to artists such as Beyonce, Sabrina Carpenter, Kendrick Lamer, and other big celebrities.
However, people seem to believe that this award show was a “scam” last night, leading to the term “scammys.” Huge artists such as Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish were snubbed last night by walking in with many nominations and walking out with no awards. These two artists were nominated for some big artists, such as Album of the Year and Song of the Year. Instead, Beyonce won Album of the Year for her album “Cowboy Carter” and Kendrick Lamar won the award of Song of the Year for his hit song “Not Like Us.”
Viewers complained regarding how often the LA Fires were mentioned. Senior Julia Baumbach shared her opinion regarding the LA Fires that were a main topic of the night, “I did not like how they kept asking the viewers at home for money, while in a room with millionaires.” Trevor Noah asked the audience after every single commercial break to donate to the fires. Shouldn’t that be a request for the hundreds of millionaires in the room? Another complaint was the length of the event. It started with an LA Fire montage, and an LA Fire performance, and every few minutes was a commercial break. Can we just get to the awards? Cause that’s why the majority of us are watching.
Many students feel that the winners were deserved, some believe the Recording Academy made some mistakes. Senior Lauren Kelly shares her opinion regarding Album of The Year: “I feel Beyonce should not have won Album of the year. I can’t name one song from that album!” She continued, “Taylor Swift should’ve won that award. Or at least something!”
Lauren is correct that Taylor Swift walked out empty-handed.
Madison Lewin agreed: “The Tortured Poets Department should have been awarded. It was beautifully written.”
However, some agree that Taylor should not have won anything. Audrey Wetzel said, “Her album wasn’t that good compared to others.”
Overall, this year’s Grammys did not meet everyone’s expectations. However, the winners were well-deserved and the event ran fairly smoothly.
