As we get deeper into the winter, the weather grows increasingly frigid and students at BHS have been feeling the cold. Many students park in the student parking lot or on side streets, frequently complaining about the brutal windy walk to BHS. Even with jackets, it is difficult to escape the bitter cold. So what’s being done about it? Nothing, it seems. Some of your favorite editors from The Eagle’s Cry interviewed students and staff on their opinions regarding the frigid rooms.
Katie O’Callaghan, a senior at BHS claims the walk from the car to the parking lot is “awful” and “absolutely treacherous.”
Another senior at BHS, Abby Chappell, has strong feelings towards not being able to use the door closer to the parking lot, and being let inside the building quicker.
She feels that, “it’s so stupid, we should 100% be allowed to enter and leave through the door so we don’t get sick.”
A student, who wishes to be anonymous, casually mentioned, “personally, I do go through the side door. Catch me if you can!”
It’s obvious that the students here at BHS are outraged by the apparent lack of empathy from the administrators, some even going as far as to break the rules. But, how do the teachers and administrators feel about the cold?
Mr. Malossi, a teacher at BHS claims that he “appreciates the work the custodians do, but their fighting against an ancient system.” He even stated that he “bought a thermometer for my office just to see how old it can get.”
We even sat down with the Head Custodian at BHS, Mr. Bob Willig, to get his insight. Mr. Willig says the cold is due to “an old heating system and the steam system, and sometimes you get irregularity.”
We, as BHS students, wish for the cold problem to be solved. We would benefit dearly from a new heating system.
