*Spoilers Ahead!!!*
OuterBanks is a thrilling drama series that started in 2020, set on the coast of North Carolina. It stars John B, JJ Maybank, Sarah Cameron, Kiara Carrera, Pope Heyward, and Cleo Anderson who are known as the Pogues. It focuses on their many adventures, challenges and tragedies they endure while looking for treasure and gold each season. Rafe Cameron, Sarah´s brother, who is also a main character, is a member of the wealthy end of the Outer Banks, who are known as the Kooks, the Pogues’ rivalries.
Just last month, the 4th season came out and fans were eager to see whether or not their theories and predictions were true. Part One came out on October 10th. It was a relief to see the Pogues finally happy. Though Rafe seems to be struggling with his and Sarah´s father´s death from the season three finale. In the first episode, the gold the Pogues found in Season Three is worth just over $1 million. They built a home for themselves and started a business.
Throughout this episode, JJ had started spending the gold, leaving the others anxious that they won’t have enough money to pay their rent. From here on they start to face some tough challenges. New characters are introduced, Wes Generette and his son-in-law, Chandler Groff. They want to break their “family curse”, as it is believed Chandler Groff´s wife Larissa Generette died from. Wes wants the Pogues to find Blackbeard’s lost treasure in exchange for $50,000. Though Wes Generette dies shortly after suddenly. As they successfully get a hold of a scroll leading them to the Blackbeard’s Blue Crown, two new villains arrive; Lightner and Dalia, who are also searching for the Blue Crown. Lightner ends up killing a well-liked character and father-figure to Cleo, Terrance.
The end of part 1 ends with multiple major cliffhangers; When the Pogues were looking for the next clue to the Blue Crown, Sarah and Pope went down into a crypt beneath a church to find the clue, but they got trapped down there with rats. Though Lightner and Dalia who were in there for the same reason, made it out. At the very end, when JJ went to visit his estranged father Luke, he told JJ that he isn’t his actual blood father. Larissia Generette is his real mother, making Chandler Groff his real father.
Part Two came out on November 7th and was more thrilling than ever! As always, fans hope to see a happy ending each season for the Pogues. Though the finale episode not only left fans shocked, but completely devastated, as well as the Pogues. JJ started having more interactions with his actual father and learning more about him. Lightner, Dalia and their crew were up against Groff, believing he had information about the crown. But as Groff seemed nice in front of JJ, he was actually planning to steal the scroll the Pogues found so he could get the Blue Crown first, hoping he could get JJ to come along with him. Along his mission, he ended up hurting and actually killing people who seemed suspicious of him and knew too much information. Though JJ started to realize how bad his father was, after he suspiciously had the scroll the Pogues intentionally hid.
As they are out at sea, JJ decides to confront him with the truth: that he killed JJ´s real mom Larissa. Groff, unable to cover up his lies anymore, pushed JJ into the water and drove away. Luckily, the Pogues found JJ in time. They knew where Groff was headed: to Morocco to get the Blue Crown. At this time, the cops were after JJ because of a murder Groff framed JJ for. Rafe overheard the commotion as they were trying to escape and decided to help them. He too wanted revenge on Groff.
In the finale episode, the Pogues finally got the crown from Groff´s reach. But unfortunately, Groff did not want to risk himself getting caught, and brutally killed JJ, taking the crown for himself. The Pogues, especially Kiara, were heartbroken. They ended up burying him somewhere in Morocco, far away from where they live in North Carolina, all alone. People all across the internet have posted videos of their reactions, crying and begging the writers to bring him back.
There are many Outer Banks fans all across BHS. As JJ is a fan-favorite character, this season was sure to be heartbreaking for them as well. It was interesting to hear their thoughts of this season, predictions and theories for the next season.
A fellow journalist and sophomore, Elizabeth Trimarco says she did not like the ending at all. She hopes the best for the Pogues and the worst for Groff. Also she loves Rafe even though he is a killer. Senior, Eva Neamonitis also didn’t like the ending at all, and she explains how she probably will not watch the next season. Right after the season ended, so many fans online were saying things like “There is no Outer Banks without JJ”. There are plenty of theories that JJ may not be dead or will come back, but as of now his actor Rudy Pankow has left the show.
