“I’ll be really upset and won’t know what to do with myself,” claimed senior at Bethpage High School, Katie O’Callagahan. You may be wondering, what could Katie possibly be so upset about? Similarly to many other teens worldwide, news of the potential ban of the beloved app, TikTok, leaves its users lost, angry, upset, and so much more.
This possible TikTok ban will be enacted on January 19th 2025 due to the fear that the Chinese government could force ByteDance-the parent company-to hand over data about TikTok’s 170 million US users.
The Eagle’s Cry interviewed two students who are TikTok users about their opinions on the ban.
TEC: How many hours a week do you spend on TikTok?
Zach Fradella: About 13 hours.
Mabel Deng: About 5 hours.
TEC: How do you feel about the Tik Tok ban?
Zach: I think it’s really bad because people make money off TikTok and express themselves so it’s bad to lose that.
Mabel Deng: Yeah they can ban it but people are just going to move to insta reels.
TEC: Do you think there are any good parts to the TikTok ban?
Zach Fradella: No.
Mabel Deng: Yes because people will actually have to look at news to find information.
Overall, many students at Bethpage have many differing opinions about this potential ban…we’ll have to see how this all plays out.
