As December and January approach, more and more college decisions have come out. Whether students applied Early Decision, Early Action, Regular Decision, or Rolling Admission, it does not change the excitement of finding out what schools you got into.
One major factor in deciding where you are going to continue your education is the cost of attendance. Tuition is the sum of money charged for teaching or instruction by a school, college, or university. Private schools tend to be more expensive, while community colleges are less so.
The Eagle’s Cry interviewed two seniors who plan to attend college in the fall about their opinions on the cost of tuition for college.
TEC: Does tuition play a large role on where you plan to attend college? Why?
Andrew Reinhardt: No, because i’m not going to a big school
Ryan Tesler: No, because I have scholarship opportunities.
TEC: Do you believe that the cost of attendance at college should be lowered? Why?
Andrew Reinhardt: Yes so that more people can afford it.
Ryan Tesler: Yes because in comparison to tuition rates in the past its increase has greatly outrisen inflation.
TEC: Do you think more people would go to college if the cost of attendance was lower or free? Why?
Andrew Reinhardt: 100% because they wouldn’t need to have as much money as other people.
Ryan Tesler: Yes, because student loans are a great financial burden and if they were lowered more people would go to college.
TEC: Where would you go to college if money was not a factor? Why?
Andrew Reinhardt: Notre Dame because I’m a huge fan.
Ryan Tesler: Harvard because of the notoriety surrounding the Harvard name.
Overall many students at BHS can agree that your tuition depends on what you’re looking for in a college and the cost of attendance should be lowered for all students.
