On October 16th, 2024, Liam Payne, former member of One Direction, passed away in the CasaSur Palermo Hotel located in Buenos Aires, Argentina. News and other sources established that he fell from the 3rd story of the hotel and on the morning of October 17th it was uncovered that he was apparently intoxicated. Sources believe that his death was unintentional, and there were no traces to it being a suicide.

 Since then, 3 people that were proven to be connected to the case, have been arrested and charged because of “abandonment of a person followed by death,” and the “supply and facilitating the use of narcotics.” According to NBC News, it was confirmed through a toxicology report that he had cocaine and other substances in his system during his time of death. It was revealed that an employee at the hotel and another unidentified individual were the ones who supplied him, ultimately leading to his tragic death.

Authorities recently approved the delivery of his body to his father, Geoff Payne, who lives in the United Kingdom.

On November 20th, Liam’s funeral was held in Amersham, England, where all of his One Direction band mates attended. Many emotional photos of Harry, Louis, Zayn and Niall have been shared across the internet. James Cordon and Simon Cowell also made an appearance, both being very close to Payne. Cowell posted a long, heartfelt note on Instagram. Kate Cassidy, his girlfriend prior to his death, was also there. She was staying with Liam in Argentina, and apparently left the day before he died.
