With the upcoming release of Wicked, the backstory of Glinda the Good Witch and Elphaba the Wicked WItch of the West from The Wizard of Oz, it is all the craze. This has been a play on Broadway since October 30, 2003, and it is now a movie starring Arianna Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba. With this being all the hype, Starbucks collaborated with the film to release two new Wicked themed drinks: Glinda’s Pink Potion and Elphaba’s Cold Brew.
Glinda’s Pink Potion is based on the famous Dragon Drink, in which this includes the base, coconut milk, Dragon Fruit inclusions, non dairy strawberry cream cold foam, and lastly pink and green duo sugar. Recently I tried this drink in a Grande size, and I definitely have some mixed reviews about it. For starters, my initial taste thought it was very good, but very sweet. As I drank it more I liked it less and less, it was just way too sweet for me. I would describe it as tasting like strawberry ice cream, which I do not like, but many do.
Senior Julia Baumbach tried it and gave her input in which she said, “It was definitely very sweet but I did enjoy it. If they toned down the sweetness it would be perfect.”
Next up is Elphaba’s Cold Brew, which I did not try due to its matcha components. I personally am not a fan of matcha. This drink is made up of classic cold brew, pumps of peppermint syrup (varies by size), non dairy matcha cream cold foam, and of course the pink and green duo sugar. I may not have tried this, but other Bethpage students had a taste.
Senior Emma Krittman said, “The drink was phenomenal in my opinion. This was the perfect combination of flavors, an absolute 10/10.”
Additionally, Senior Abby O’Hara said, “I definitely liked it, however I am not a huge matcha fan so I would not get this drink again. I think you have to really love matcha to enjoy this drink.”
Overall it seems that Bethpage Students are a fan of the new drinks released by Starbucks in honor of the new Wicked movie being released. I can’t wait to try their Christmas/Winter menu!
