As the regular season comes to an end and playoffs begin, the long-awaited question has finally been answered. Who will win WNBA rookie of the year? Although it was originally up in the air between Angel Reese—former LSU power forward—and Caitlin Clark—Iowa point guard—Reese’s season-ending injury made the choice clear.
Caitlin Clark won ROTY! This did not come as a shock considering her record breaking season for the Indiana Fever. Clark led the fever to the playoffs for the first time since 2016 and they ended their season with a 20-20 record.
Throughout the whole season Caitlyn also had some major accomplishments. She was the first WNBA rookie and Indiana Fever player to record a triple-double (she had 2), she broke the single-season rookie assist record and had the WNBA rookie record for most 3s made in a season. These are just 3 of 17 records Clark broke.
Even with Clark’s outstanding achievements, some critics believe that if Angel Reese did not hurt her wrist she would still be in contention for Rookie of the year. The Eagle’s Cry interviewed 2 seniors at BHS on their opinion about this debate.
TEC: Who do you think should have won Rookie of the year?
Katie O’Callaghan and Lauren Kachadorian both answered with Caitlin Clark.
TEC: Why do you feel Clark deserved this title?
Lauren Kachadorian: No other rookies broke as many records as her or had as good of a season.
Katie O’Callaghan: She had a big impact on her team every single game.
TEC: Do you feel Caitlyn Clark lived up to her expectations in the WNBA? Why?
Lauren Kachadorian:Yes. She continued to have many high scoring games even with all of the pressure put on her.
Katie O’Callaghan: Yes. Many people said she would have played worse against professionals but she still had an great season.
