Sometimes, The Eagle’s Cry dives into the vault for great movies from the past that BHS students may have missed. Today, we bring you back to the year some of our seniors were born: 2006. The film? The Breakup.
Brooke, played by Jennifer Aniston, is an art dealer who finally left her boyfriend Gary, played by Vince Vaughn, who is a tour bus driver. After struggles of not meeting each other’s needs, they call it quits, however they remain in the same condo together since neither will take it upon themselves to move out. A game starts between the two of them to try to get the other to cave by ultimately pissing the other person off with specific things that target them. They turn into extremely hostile roommates, but I won’t share what happens to their relationship.
Let’s take a look at what some Bethpage students have to say about their opinion on this popular rom com type movie, The Breakup.
BHS senior Abby O’Hara, when asked who she sided with on this movie, she responded with, “I personally believe Brooke was in the right as she tried to get across what she needed from Gary and he simply did not listen. I do believe she could have worded it in a different way and been less petty.”
Additionally, I asked BHS senior Emma Krittman if she believed the actors were fit for this role? Her response was, “Yes I think that they each portrayed their character beautifully, showing the realistic complex issues that occur in relationships and a breakup. Overall they are two incredible actors.”
Lastly, I asked BHS senior Allie O’Shea if she thought the movie had a good ending and why? Her thought process was that, “It had a realistic ending that not a lot of movies portray, which makes the movie plot so much better and creates so much more love for the characters.”
I also asked her if she would recommend this movie, she said, “I would absolutely recommend this movie as it is such a good watch and brings you on a rollercoaster of emotions. I would rate it a 9/10.”
The Breakup is a popular movie loved by numerous Bethpage High School students. This movie is an hour and forty-six minutes and can be found on Starz, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video.
