It is not even debatable to say that the Rangers have been doing much better than the Islanders this season. But the Islanders were almost promising but of course, lost a 4-1 lead. Contrary to this game, the Islanders have been pretty good against the Rangers. But, nonetheless, they did have an incredible start to the game.
4-1 Islanders
The game starts off with 4 goals in the first, and three of them from the Islanders. With Erik Gustafsson scoring his fifth goal of the season, putting the Rangers on the board just a little over a minute into the first. Then about three minutes later, Brock Nelson scores his 23rd goal of the season tying the game.
Three minutes later, the period went absolutely perfectly for Islanders fans with Horvat and seconds later, Barzal on the power play scoring.
4-3 Islanders
Starting the second period, Anders Lee, the Islanders captain, scores on the powerplay. But soon after, Trocheck scored two goals for the Rangers.
5-5 Tie
The third period starts off looking good for the Islanders as Romanov scores to make the score 5-3 Islanders. Unfortunately for them, the Rangers come in, with the 4th best power play in the league and Kreider and Zibanejad both score.
6-5 Rangers
Just 10 seconds into overtime, none other than Artemi Panarin scores the game winning goal for the Rangers.
The Eagle’s Cry interviewed some students from BHS to discuss their opinions on the Stadium Series this year.
BHS junior, Julia Coscino, said that “it sucks but the Islanders have just not been good this year and their penalty kill is not good. So honestly, it’s not that shocking that they blew the lead but obviously, I’m still upset about it and wish they could keep the lead.”
BHS senior, Marisa Cacciuttolo, said it simply but just saying that “the most New York Islander thing to do is to lose in overtime.”
BHS junior, Kaia Correll, said that “the game was very fun and it’s definitely a very unique experience being outside”. Kaia also added that it “was a very aggressive environment in good and bad ways” with the many “differing opinions”. But, she ended off with saying that the game was “very fun” being there even with the loss.
Additionally, The Eagle’s Cry‘s very own, Nora Kerrigan’s brother went to this game. Nora’s brother said “good game”.
Mr. Malossi wanted to end with “Rangers rule!”
