The Netflix show Gilmore Girls has people all over the world intrigued during every episode, who adore the close and heartwarming relationship between the two main characters; Lorelai Gilmore and her daughter Rory Gilmore. The town Washington Depot in Connecticut is just the right place to visit during autumn if you want to explore the life of a Gilmore girl.
As soon as you enter the town, you immediately get the feeling that you are in the show. The cafe called “Marty’s Cafe” may not look like “Luke’s” but has the same feel to it, you may even see people dressed as Gilmore Girls characters around it. There were many antique stores like “Kim’s Antiques” and a food store similar to Doose’s. Some other sights and places of the popular town include the Gunn Memorial Library, Mt Tom State Park, Hollister House Garden, and so many more. The creator of the series, Amy Sherman-Palladino got her inspiration to create the show while staying at the Mayflower Inn and Spa in Washington, and used the idea of this town as a starting point for Gilmore Girls. The setting of the Dragonfly Inn where Lorelai works was taken directly from the Mayflower Inn, where Amy stayed. One book store in particular had a shelf just for Gilmore Girls related things, including Lauren Graham’s book, who plays the main character Lorelai Gilmore. The book store’s called Hickory Stick Bookstore. It’s a small bookstore, but with a lot to offer. The owner of this bookstore has a lot to say about the town of Washington Depot, and its popularity. Fran Keilty, who has owned Hickory Stick Bookstore for 20 years says she sees fans practically everyday exploring the town, and adds that they are one of the kindest group of people. A family from Saudi Arabia have even traveled to Washington Depot, and made their way to Hickory Stick Bookstore. Keilty also talks about the two books written by the actor of Lorelai, Lauren Graham are sold here.
