There has been a resounding debate about whether students should face consequences for a certain amount of latenesses. Many BHS students have disagreed with the lateness policy in the school claiming that there is not enough leniency.
Jonathan Sanabria, a junior at BHS, claims that latenesses “should not count” because many people “have trouble getting a ride” to school. Jonathan also believes that the school “should be more lenient.”
A junior at BHS, Eva Neamonitis, acknowledges that “more teachers should have more sympathy with the bell.” She also thinks that “if someone walks right in after the bell” they should “not be marked late.” On the other hand, she believes that if “someone is twenty to thirty minutes late they should be marked late.”
A BHS junior, Ava Fallabella, thinks that the concept of latenesses is “stupid” and claims that “detention is unnecessary.” Ava discussed how teachers should be more “lenient if the student walks in right after the bell” but, if the student is really late then it is “acceptable to be marked late.”
Julia Baumbach, a fellow BHS Eagle’s Cry writer revealed that in “9th grade” [she] was late a lot. “I had a double period in science, I was late all the time.” Julia believes that the rule against latenesses is “stupid” and “they should be more lenient.”
All together, many BHS students believe that being marked late is unnecessary if someone walks right in after the bell. However, if a student walks in very late, it is okay to be marked late.
