Over the break, I had the blessing of seeing the new movie, Wonka.
This movie includes the unpredictable background of Willy Wonka’s success.
While the two movies, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971) and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005) have just about the same plot, the new movie, Wonka (2023) switches things up and I could’ve never predicted what would happen.
Usually, musicals are not my ideal movie type but this movie had the songs come at just about perfect timing, to the point where the songs were not annoying.
BHS junior, Haley Flaherty agreed and said that she “loved the music” and “thought it really added to the plot!”
BHS senior Marissa Nuzzi also enjoyed the movie. Marissa even mentioned that it had her feeling “nostalg[ic] because everyone watched Willy Wonka growing up.”
As I was not a fan of Timothée Chalamet before watching, I am now a massive fan of his. He is an insanely dynamic and talented actor.
I watched this movie with BHS junior, Giselle D’Aleo and we could not stop discussing how this film “changed us.”
Giselle even continues telling me that this movie was “life changing.”
While I usually cannot stay concentrated on movies, it was easy to continue watching because of the constant and speedy plotline.
Also, Hugh Grant had a hilarious rendition of the Oompa Loompa. Grant had few screentime, but, could not have done any better with the few lines he was given. Giselle and I laughed continuously at every time we saw the Oompa Loompa.
Although I feel this was an extraordinary movie, not everyone will agree. Other students, such as BHS junior, Julia Baumbach said that she “fell asleep.”
Overall, many BHS students enjoyed this movie and I hope it encourages you to go see this movie if you have not!
