Almost every student at Bethpage High School can agree that it is not uncommon for students to be seen walking around in a pair of Crocs. Since 2002, these shoes have become (some say) the epitome of style and comfort. Coming in many different colors, types, and designs also comes with many different opinions.
A brief history of “Crocs”
The story of Crocs is a rather unusual one. In Boulder, Colorado, three men—Lyndon Hanson, Scott Seamans, and George Boedecker—set out their product with the intention of making a comfortable and “easy to keep clean” shoe for boating. Soon enough, this shoe changed for anyone who needed to be on their feet for long periods of time and kept growing from that.
How did Crocs get their name?
One question that many are curious to know is, “Why are Crocs called Crocs? This shoe is named after the amphibious animal, the crocodile. The Croc shares similar similarities, such as that both can go on land and water, and when looked at from the side, the shoe looks like a crocodile snout.
So what do the students think about these shoes? Many BHS students have opinions about Crocs.
One junior, Zach Fradella, said, “This is my first time wearing Crocs.” during the interview. He described it as a “brilliant experience.”
In contrast to Zach’s claim, senior Joy Kim says, “Crocs are not for me; I prefer shoes that have my feet completely covered and with no holes.” Even though she personally does not enjoy wearing crocs, Joy believes that “the idea is smart, and they are good for athletes to slip on and off.”
Although Crocs may not be the perfect shoe choice for everyone, it is undeniable that their design and style are intelligent and appealing to some shoe wearers.
