Almost everyone is familiar with Taylor Swift, the artist with the most number-one albums in history. In the past 17 years, Swift has been breaking records left and right.
Swift is known for her incredible, poetically written lyrics. Some even compare her sensible lyrics to the poet William Shakespeare’s work.
The Eagles Cry interviewed some of our BHS students, even the biggest Swifties, asking if the line was written by Taylor Swift or William Shakespeare, to put them to the test if they really know their T-Swift.
Our first interviewee was an 11th grader, Joe Ellinger. We asked Joe if this line was by Swift or Shakespeare.
“And all we are is skin and bone, trained to get along, forever going.” Joe guessed that this line was by Shakespeare.
Wrong! This is a line from Swift’s 2012 hit “Treacherous.”
Next, we interviewed student Madison Lewin, who claims to be a huge Swiftie herself.
Swift or Shakespeare? “These violent daylights have violent ends.”
Madison Lewin guessed correctly with Shakespeare. Madison must love Taylor or be a big fan of Romeo and Juliet!
We quizzed student Olivia Greenfield on her knowledge of Taylor Swift versus English literature.
“Faster than the wind, passionate as sin, ending so suddenly.” Olivia guessed Shakespeare.
It looks like someone needs to brush up on her Taylor Swift lyrics!
Finally, we put 11th grader Christina Davillas up to the Swift or Shakespeare test. “Cold was the steel of the axe to grind for the boys who broke my heart” . Christina guessed correctly with Swift.
As we learned, Bethpage High School has a large population of Taylor Swift fans, and some, not so much.
