Rizzo Back To Yankees; BHS Reacts
Anthony Rizzo, 2 years $40 Million Guaranteed
Last night the Yankees first baseman, Anthony Rizzo solidified his return to the Bronx. In his 1.5 years as a Yankee, Rizzo has a solid .236 batting average with 40 home runs.
Rizzo was brought to the Yankees at the 2021 trade deadline in a trade that saw Rizzo come to the Yankees in exchange for a package of prospects. In the 2021 offseason he signed a 1 year $16 million contract with a player option for 2023.
Last Monday, Rizzo declined his option and entered free agency. It took just 8 days to bring the lefty back to NY. Rizzo’s new contract is a 2 year, $34 million dollar deal. The Yankees have an option for the 3rd year where he will make another $16 million, the Yankees do have a $6 million dollar buyout if they choose to decline that option.
Rizzo has become a fan favorite and is well liked by his teammates. Fans took to twitter following the signing praising the Yankees front office including general manager Brian Cashman, who has taken some criticism in recent weeks as he too is a free agent.
Bethpage Sophomore Gabriella Hernandez is excited by this signing. Gabby said, “He is a solid hitter and I trust him on the field. Getting Rizzo back will definitely help Judge to stay. It is awesome!”
Rizzo and superstar free agent Aaron Judge have become close friends in their time in the Bronx. Many wonder if this move was all part of Cashman’s elaborate plan to bring back Judge.
The offseason has just begun and already with some key signings and trades. Hal Stienbrener has made it clear that he is not done this offseason and that Aaron Judge is a priority. Only time will tell as to what is in store for the Yankees this offseason.
