NFL PREDICTIONS WITH ACKERLY & MERTZ: WEEK NINE

Hey yo! Welcome back to NFL Predictions with myself—Robbie Ackerly—and James Mertz. As per usual, on tap for this week is a recap of the NFL’s week 8 action along with me and Mertz giving our winner predictions for week 9. Like always, let’s start with a week 8 recap.

Last Weeks Locks and Upsets

For the second time in the history of this series I am grouping last week’s lock and upsets together. Granted, me and Mertz have only written these for a handful of weeks, however do NOT let that take away from the CLEAN SWEEP me and Mertz pulled off in week 8. Me and Mertz put together a record of 4-0 between our locks and upsets, as the Ravens and Commanders pulled it off, while the Bills and Falcons took care of business.

Total Results

Wow, two weeks in a row now me and Mertz are drawn. This week we both achieved records of 10-5. But, I have once again failed to gain any ground meaning Mertz is still ahead in the yearly totals

54-20 and 47-27, respectively.

Week 9

Recap over…time for week 9.

This week, I’m gonna get us started.

Ackerly’s Lock Of The Week

It baffled me when I discovered that the Tennessee Titans stand at 5-2. But as a young Jake Mcluff once said, ”Tennessee stands on Pillars of Salt and Pillars of Sand ” and I couldn’t agree more. The Tennessee Titans are a team that have not thrown the ball over 20 times once this season. While yes, Derrick Henry is an absolute monster and a pain for every single NFL defense, he simply won’t be enough. The Titans will not be able to stop a Chiefs offense that has been absolutely spectacular thus far. Tennessee’s one dimensional offense will be exposed this week. As the Titans are simply outmatched here and are going to get embarrassed this Sunday night.

Ackerly’s Upset Alert!

I find it very funny the Carolina Panthers have the 1st and 3rd overall pick in the 2018 draft sitting on the bench while starting a former XFL MVP. Even funnier? PJ Walker hasn’t been terrible, in my eyes he is a hero as he has completely revived DJ Moore fantasy wise and has kinda been good for the Panthers. With a 1-2 (should be 2-1) record as the starter, Walker has thrown north of 500 yards, three touchdowns and only one interception. Matched up this week with an underperforming Bengals team, I think PJ and his rag-tag crew pull off another one.

The Rest Of Ackerly’s Picks

Philadelphia Eagles def. Houston Texans

Los Angeles Charges def. Atlanta Falcons

Miami Dolphins def. Chicago Bears

Green Bay Packers def. Detroit Lions

Jacksonville Jaguars def. Las Vegas Raiders

New England Patriots def. Indianapolis Colts

Buffalo Bills def. New York Jets

Washington Commanders def. Minnesota Vikings

Seattle Seahawks def. Arizona Cardinals

Tampa Bay Buccaneers def. Los Angeles Rams

Baltimore Ravens def. New Orleans Saints

That is all for me, I’ll pass it off to you Mertz.

Mertz’s Lock Of The Week

Everything Ack just told you about PJ Walker and the Panthers is erroneous. PJ Walker is bad. The Carolina Panthers are bad. Cincinnati is coming off a blowout loss on Monday night and even without Jamarr Chase there’s no way they’re losing to the bums of Carolina. Bengals improve to 5-4 with ease.

Mertz’s Upset Alert!

Everyone right now is loving the Miami Dolphins and what they did at the trade deadline. Well, I don’t buy the hype. This week they play a Chicago Bears team that although they’re only 3-5 have won 2 in a row and traded for young wide receiver Chase Claypool. This team has been playing frisky and they’re going to continue the winning streak as Justin Fields shines in a surprise victory.
