Music plays a very important role in people’s everyday lives. 2019 had many hits that many people were listening to throughout the year.. Therefore, these were the top songs of 2019:

1.bad guy– Billie Eilish

Billie Eilish, a new artist at the age of 17 came out with this hit song. This catch bop was extremely popular and almost every teenager was listening to her music. “Her sound is very different than most of the upcoming artists in our generation. I really like it since the alternative sound fits her voice and vocal range. She’s doing very well for someone her age as she’s been nominated for multiple awards and has won multiple awards.” says Ace Garcia a sophomore at Bethpage High school. Her alternative type of music helped her skyrocket to first place and continue to lead strongly.

2.Old Town Road– Lil Nas X

Old Town Road was the hottest song of the summer. People ranging from all ages were listening to this song. Everywhere you went or every car you passed by, Lil Nas X’s Old Town Road was playing. This song was number one for over nineteen weeks but then fell to second place after Billie Eilish’s bad guy took the lead . His partnership with Billy Ray Cyrus, a country singer, brought the song even more popularity and will not be forgotten since the lyrics can get stuck in anyone’s head.

3.I Don’t Care– Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber 

Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber are two very popular artists in the music business. Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber alone are extremely successful and are able to produce amazing songs on their own. Therefore, this partnership was able to bring amazing lyrics that were catchy and probably gave people a beat to dance to. Since this was so catchy and had a really cool and almost summer like sound, it became very popular and was able to be in third place. 

4.Sucker- Jonas Brothers

The Jonas Brothers finally made a comeback after six years of being broken up. Their return was able to make their new song a hit since it lead to the reunion of this very popular band once again. As this band continues to make a comeback there was no doubt that their song wouldn’t be in the top 5. This band produced several other songs within the short length of being reunited as a band again. “This song was positively received because it is melodically simple for the average music listener to understand,” says Ariana Mehrzad a senior at BHS. 

5.Someone You Loved– Lewis Capaldi

This heart warming song was able to touch anyone’s heart. This song brought tears to so many people’s eyes and earned its spot on the top 5 songs. Lewis Capaldi is also a new artist, his voice is different compared to others. His mellow but deep voice in some parts of the song is really appealing to listeners. Hopefully he continues to make touching songs in the future that are just as visceral as this one. His music video is also very touching but as a new artist, hopefully he is able to strive for an even higher place on the music board.
