CrasH Talk Review

ScHoolboy Q recently released his fifth studio album, CrasH Talk, on April 26, 2019. The fourteen-track album marked his first since his critically acclaimed album Blank Face LP, released in 2016. Here are my thoughts on it.

1.Gang Gang- A great intro to the album. The song delivers enough hype to prepare for the rest of the album. 8/10

2.Tales- This is one of the best storytelling tracks in Schoolboy’s discography, and is a nice switch in his style. 7.5/10

3.CHopstix (feat. Travis Scott) – There were such high hopes for this song. Such high hopes. Looking at the tracklist,I thought this would be the best track on here. Travis Scott’s hook was nothing less of bad,and ScHoolboy was only OK on his verses.- 2/10

4.Numb Numb Juice: Schoolboys Q’s strongest asset is his voice to make songs hyped up or uptempo. His voice fits perfectly over this hard hitting beat. 9/10

5.Drunk (feat. 6LACK)- As much as I never thought I’d hear Q’s charisma on a slowed down track, it worked here, especially with the addition of 6LACK’s smooth vocals. 8/10

6.Lies(feat. Ty Dolla $ign & YG)-I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, anything Ty Dolla $ign features on,he kills it. He’s the biggest contributor on this song, and he only handles the hook. Q and YG provide really good verses, but TY Dolla $ign makes the song what it is.- 9.5/10

  1. 5200- A banger having to do with money and checks. Standard, but great. 8.5/10

  1. Black Folk-  Another introspective storytelling track, this one having to do with African Americans. A nice break from trap anthems. The “Wasted” chorus was sonically pleasing as well 7.5/10

9.Floating(feat. 21 Savage)- The dead vibe of the track tailors to both 21 Savage and Schoolboy Q’s raspy, monotone voices. 8.5/10

10.Dangerous(feat. Kid Cudi)- The song was able to tailor to both Cudi’s sound and ScHoolboy’s sound and made an all around great track.Kid Cudi handles the hook while showing his singing ability, and provides hums towards the end of the track, while the production allows Cudi to be strong and ScHoolboy to show his rapping prowess. – 10/10

  1. Die Wit Em- A little more trap, but more introspective than most, providing decent lyrics over a great beat.  7/10
  2. CrasH- A return to ScHoolboy’s signature style, hyped up tracks. A great beat supported by the raspiness and the hyped tone in Q’s voice allowed this song to be great. 9/10

  1. Water(feat. Lil baby)- Another trap banger, featuring a trap banger expert himself. Not much to talk about sonically, just a standard trap track. 6.5/10

14.Attention- For a great album to start so well, it has to end just as well, and it does end just as well. 8/10

FINAL VERDICT:

8.5/10
