It’s hard to believe, but with winter sports upon us, bringing with them chills outside and thrills in the gym and alleys. The Eagle’s Cry talked to a few coaches and got you the inside scoop on the upcoming winter season.

Wrestling

The wrestling team is going to be young, fun, and very exciting to watch this season so make sure to be there to support them. The top returning wrestlers, at last season’s weights, are Sophomore Tom Bachmeier at 170, Juniors Liam Colwell at 120, Chris Liberopoulos at 126, Eric Musetich at 220, and Alex Ludwig at 182. They’re all extremely talented and expected to have great seasons. Some important dates to know are December 10th, when The Bethpage Individual tournament will occur. On January 4th, they will have their first home league match vs Glen Cove and on January 6th they will be having their 2nd home meet against Wantagh. From January 20th to the 21st, the team will be hosting the Bethpage Duals.

Boys’ Basketball

After a tough season last year, the squad looks to bounce back in a big way. The team is filled with talent including forwards Patrick Luzzi, Michael Lane, and Ryan O’Neill as well as Guards Phillip Purchick and Nick Ilasi. The team will be lead by Coach Jack Davenport. They will have their first home game December 19th versus Lawrence. December 22nd will be their 2nd home game, a tough matchup against Glen Cove. On December 29th, they will have their first home tournament against John Adams High School. January 17th, they will have their hands full  defending home turf against Floral Park. February 8th is the team’s final home game, ending a hopefully great season against rival Plainedge. The team certainly looks like it will make a run this season, with plenty of experience and returning players on the team to lead the way. They should be very fun to watch.

Girls’ Basketball

After a disappointing season last year, the Eagles look for better go-around this upcoming season. The first home game of the season will be on December 1st against Great Neck.  You won’t want to miss the rivalry game on January 9th, when the Eagles take on Plainedge here at the High School. The Eagles will play their final home game on February 10th, when they battle Floral Park.  Led by Camryn Roller, Corrin Tempesta, The Eagle’s Cry’s own Taylor Hannaberry, Taylor Hughes, and junior Gillian O’Boyle, the girls basketballers look to give opponents a tough time this season.

Bowling

The toughest matches for the Golden Eagles boys this season will be against Plainview and Massapequa.  Plainview has always given the Eagles a run for their money, and this upcoming year should be no different.  Teams such as Farmingdale and Syosset lost key players this season, so they should be lighter competition for our boys. The girls team looks to hold its own this season after losing several key pieces such as Carly Licht, Sammi Ng, and Emily Dean.  However, they still have senior Captain Kathryn Backman who will look to lead the Golden Girls to success this season.
