Five Movies You Need To See
2016 may be coming to a close, however the list of movies to be excited for is far from ending. Action, adventure, sci-fi, fantasy, and comedy are all things to be expected from the upcoming list of movies.
Doctor Strange
The next in Marvel’s 3rd Phase of super-hero blockbusters, Doctor Strange follows the journey of Doctor Strange, renowned New York surgeon . After being in a terrible car accident, he loses his touch in the medical field. He then travels the world, learning magic as he goes prepared to fight evil doers. Like most Marvel movies releasing, Doctor Strange should be packed full of excitement, quips, and world-building. However, what sets Doctor Strange apart is the inclusion of pure magical elements. This opens up many new possibilities for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but mainly as stated by the film’s producer, Kevin Feige: “We want to enter, through Strange, the world of parallel dimensions.” Creating multiple versions of the same character to face threats or maybe, possibly finding a way to create a bridge between Fox’s X-men movies and Disney’s Marvel movies similar to what was done between Marvel and Sony with Spider-Man? Sign me up! Doctor Strange hits theaters November 4th.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
Set approximately seven decades before the Harry Potter Saga, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them follows the story of Newt Scamander who must stop his “fantastic beasts” that escaped from him and are travelling throughout New York City. The first of the intended trilogy of Harry Potter spinoff films, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is actually inspired by the Hogwarts textbook that appeared in the Harry Potter films. Written by J.K. Rowling, the film should hold true to the spirit of the Harry Potter films, and should be just as entertaining, especially for Harry Potter fans. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them hits theaters November 18.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
The first of the Star Wars Anthology Series, Rogue One is set between the events of Star Wars Episode III- Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars Episode IV- A New Hope. It follows the story of a team of rebels who set out on a mission to steal the plans for the Empire’s new superweapon, the Death Star. Any Star Wars fan or sci-fi fan is bound to love this film. According to the film’s producer, Kathleen Kennedy, it will have similar elements to the films which are apart of the Star Wars saga, but “it goes into new territory, exploring the galactic struggle from a ground war perspective.” According to the trailer, Darth Vader will also appear in the film which in my opinion, is enough to go out and see it. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits theaters December 16th.
Assassin’s Creed
Based on the popular the video game series of the same name, Assassin’s Creed follows the story of Callum Lynch, a man kidnapped by the organization Abstergo and forced to relive the memories of his ancestors, who were part of a secret organization known as the Assassin Order, through a machine called the Animus. While most video game movies usually fall flat, I have hope for this one. Not only does it have a great director and cast, Ubisoft, the company that makes the game, is also helping with the writing process. They are even going as far as saying, what happens in the movie will effect the next game. Assassin’s Creed hits theaters December 21.
Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders
Thy Dynamic Duo returns! Adam West and Burt Ward are back in this animated film based on the classic Batman television series from the 60s. This time, four of their greatest adversaries, Joker, Riddler, Penguin, and Catwoman, have hatched a nefarious scheme that can only be ended by the Dynamic Duo! The spirit of the original Batman series is what this movie is based around. Cheesy humor, ridiculous predicaments, and of course the classic fight scenes are all things to expect from this exciting tale. Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders is only in select theaters on October 10th, and afterwards it is releasing straight to DVD, which will be available in most stores such as Target or Walmart.
