Bethpage Varsity Swim and Dive Team Finishes Year With a Win
On Monday, October 19th, the seniors on the Bethpage Varsity Swim and Dive Team competed in their last meet of the season. Together, the girls took the win, which senior Carly Deo summed up when she said, “Teams win meets, and it wasn’t all of the first place wins that won the meets for us–it was all of the thirds and fourths.” Every swimmer contributed something to this team, especially the seniors, who will be greatly missed.
The meet against Cold Spring Harbor ended with a score of 98-75. However, Bethpage hit the max number of points three events early, so the team had to give Cold Spring Harbor points for the last few events. Overall, everyone had a great time. Senior Allison Gunning had even said that she couldn’t stop smiling: “I was so happy!” she exclaimed.
The team had a great season, with a record of 6-1. They will finish second in their conference, which is the best they have done in years.
“I can’t believe this is my last season with the B.E.S.T. team ever!” said senior Cheyenne Dane. By the end of the season, everyone became so close to each other, and it will be hard to lose half of the team: Senior Jenn Gunning said, “we are so close, and it was great to have the opportunity to swim with all of them.”
